The first phase of the project 'The snow and glacier melt components of streamflow of the river Rhine and its tributaries considering the influence of climate change' (ASG Rhine) that has been initiated by the CHR, has been finished. The final report (08/2016 - only in German) is available for download. The English version will be available later this year.

The International Commission for the Hydrology of the Rhine basin (KHR/CHR) has commissioned the research project 'The snow and glacier melt components of streamflow of the river Rhine and its tributaries considering the influence of climate change' (ASG Rhine) in 2012. Aim of this research project was the determination of the contribution of these discharge components on a daily and monthly basis for the long period 1901-2006. Especially the modelling and analysis with daily time steps should provide understanding of the discharge contribution to extreme events, especially to low flow periods in the Middle and Lower Rhine. The consideration of the long period should give insight and explanation about trends and changes especially caused by changes in climate and decrease of glaciers as well as the increaes of water storage in reservoirs. Main focus of the project was to support the modelling results with a possible extensive processing and use of observation data.
